THIS is cause to celebrate!
When I first heard that Col’Cacchio was going to offer vegan pizzas, I was a little skeptical. I mean, any franchise who wants to jump on the ‘vegan bandwagon’ better know what the hell they are doing, otherwise the repercussions could be catastrophic. Have you ever met an angry vegan? I was a non-believer, so I had to take a drive down to Camps Bay and go and judge them. I mean test them. I mean support them. Yes – I was going to support Col’Cacchio’s effort to veganise a pizza.
Quite honestly? I was blown away. This is the real frikken deal. It doesn’t taste any different from a normal pizza and literally would probably be one of the top vegan (cheese-laden) pizzas that I have ever eaten. Of course – I might hear some of you saying, “Yes, but Cape Town Vegan, you can take ANY pizza and ‘veganise’ it by just leaving off the cheese!”. Yes smartypants I know this. But I want a cheesy pizza! *throws toys from adult-sized cot*
The vegan margherita pizza retails for R90 and you can add toppings to it. They elaborate, “tomato base, herbs, dairy-free cheese (if you love cheese but can’t or wont eat dairy, this is for you! A tasty alternative to cheese that is free from animal ingredients. Perfect for vegetarians and vegans or those who are lactose or casein intolerant).”
I actually don’t care how expensive it is, because it IS tasty and it IS perfect. I’ve had one twice: once sit-down, and once takeaway. So popular was this vegan pizza when it came out that every vegan from here to Pofadder came out of their vegan caves to try it resulting in depleted stocks.
Last month Col’Cacchio actually issued a statement saying they were restocked. So if you weren’t one of them, why are you still hiding?
Not too long ago I came across someone trying to get us all to sign a petition for Debonairs to offer a vegan option or two. Truth is – Col’Cacchio beat them to it, and quite frankly they need to be supported. Can you imagine if EVERY leading restaurant chain started to offer exclusively vegan options on their menus? We’d take over the world one greasy oil fryer or pizza oven at a time!
Do it. Boom. Peace x
Oooh I gotta try. I was a Col’Cacchio devotee/groupie/crazy fan for years and years back in my ‘vegetarian, cheese loving pizza obsessed days’ (I can’t help it, I was born that way – no meat, fish or eggs since birth but LOTS of cheese!) and like you, I think a pizza isn’t a pizza if it doesn’t have cheeeeze on it!
