Review – Cape Town Vegan in London, United Kingdom
Once a year I get to go to London to eat. And to do some work. But mostly to eat. So this year I went for a month, which would explain why I was so quiet with posting entries between March and April.
So this year I went for a month, which would explain why I was so quiet with posting entries between March and April.
So, here it finally is! Better late than never I say!
Instead of boring you with stories, I am going to cut straight to the chase and share the places I went to so that if you ever visit London, you might enjoy them as well!
Farmacy – House Pancakes which happen to be gluten-free, nut-free and vegan made with buckwheat flour served with fresh fruit, coconut ‘yoghurt’, chia berry jam & maple syrup. Pretty pricey at £11, but super delicious!Rawligion – for breakfast!Vegan Hippo, Soho – Breakfast! SUCH a great place!
Black Cat Cafe – all-vegan cafe in HackneyCafe van Gogh – all vegan cafe next to a churchCafe van Gogh – Pasta and Salad £6.50Cafe van Gogh – literally decorated in a Van Gogh “style” <— pretends to be an art expertCalabash of Culture – a buffet-style, down-to-earth cafe in CamdenThe Green Room, situated behind the National Theatre – “The Vegan Burger” made with beetroot sauerkraut & crushed avocado served with chips/salad – nut-free, and gluten-free on request, £12.50The Gate, Islington branch – “The Gate’s Beetroot & Quinoa Burger” a pretzel bun, tomato, baby gem lettuce, smoked tomato relish & new green pickled cucumber, served with polenta chips. First time I’ve ever eaten polenta chips. Not sure about this sorcery. £10Tibits – great food – but it gets weighed, and I seem to ALWAYS get ripped off. I would go again, but was a bit put off by the price.Wild Food Cafe, Covent GardenThe Wild Food Cafe, Covent GardenWild Food Cafe, Covent GardenWild Food Cafe, Covent Garden
Cookies and Scream – Cookie Dough Shake. I probably had about 4 of these over the course of a month. I even converted others into agreeing that they are the world’s best shakes!Mooshies – Life-changing! Called “What the Beef?” it’s a quinoa & black bean patty, with Mooshies burger sauce, caramelised onions, vegan cheese, gherkins and lettuce with a side of “Cheezy Sweet Potato Fries” – total £12Ms Cupcake, Brixton – a “Red Velvet Oreo Brownie”… It took me two days to eat this!Ms Cupcake, Brixton – Strawberry and Cream CupcakePickywops – 100% vegan pizza shop, voted one of the best pizza places in London! You have a choice of 4 different pizza bases: a turmeric-multigrain-burnt-wheat, spirulina, hemp or kamut base! My go-to pizza was the “Take It Vegan Cheesy” – covered in mozzarella, almond ricotta, creamy cheese, parmesan and potato.Temple of Seitan – I stood in the rain to get some of their fried chick’n. OMF – it was PERFECT!Temple of Seitan – vegan Mac ‘n Cheese with bacon bits! 100% plant-based. The irony is that they are situated next door to a butcher that doesn’t appear to be doing too well. How beautiful is this picture? It tasted even better!Yorica – literally the best ice cream in London!
Brick Lane Market – Phipie Greek Food. This was seriously the BEST pie I have EVER had hands down. I actually went back for a second slice!Koshari Street – I literally cannot explain how awesome this addictive dish is. Koshari is the authentic street food of Egypt, a nutritious, staple which is enjoyed by thousands daily. A naturally healthy pot of rice, pasta, lentils and chickpeas topped with zesty tomato sauce, caramelised onions and doqqa… a crumbly spicy mix. This national dish, sold on roadside stalls and restaurants throughout Egypt, captures the heart of the nation. But I obviously got it in London for £5.95
