Review – Ground Zero – Marley Coffee, Observatory

I have to start by confessing that I don’t really know what the NAME of this place is. Is it Marley Coffee? Is it perhaps Ground Zero? Or dare I say: is it a combination of both!? Ground Zero, Marley Coffee. Regardless, it’s great. And has lots of vegan options. That’s all that matters.

You know things are going to go well when you are casually offered coffee as you walk through the door. Did they have a 2-prong plug for my annoying constantly-needing-charging laptop? Yes. WIFI? Yes. Almond milk? Yes. Soya milk? Yes. Single or double. DEFINITELY double.

I’m SO glad I chose this place as an early morning meeting venue. I realised a little later that there was an entire seating area at the rear of the building (for those who need to  “get some air”).

Their menu is largely vegan:

Decadent Chia Pudding (w/fresh fruit & coconut cream) R60

Vegan Chicken Mayo (stoneground Turkish roll & coleslaw) R45

Vegan Facon & Avo (stoneground Turkish roll & coleslaw) R45

Falafel Wrap R60

Thai “Chicken” Wrap R60

Thai “Chicken” Curry R70

Thai Broccoli Curry R70

Rainbow Wrap R60

Chef’s Quinoa Salad R70

Jenna’s Tofu Stir Fry R65

Vegan Gluten-Free Quiche of the Day (served w/side salad) R50

Date Balls R10

Vegan Muffins R22

Vegan Cake R45

Vegan Gluten-Free Waffle (w/fresh fruit, coconut cream & nuts) R60

Vegan Zang Mocha Coffee R40

Vegan Chocolate & Banana Milkshake

FINALLY!!! An eatery that makes PROPER vegan meals instead of a garden salad or hummus and avo on toast. Thank you Ground Zero… or is it Marley Coffee

Talking about coffee; their coffee is GREAT and on special was a gluten-free vegan waffle with fresh coconut cream, berries and nuts!

I then stayed and ate lunch after my (dessert) breakfast! Their vegan “chicken” was outstanding!

Will I come back? YES. What should you expect – a laid back, non-pretentious, no-bullshit place. What do I like about it best? The fact that the staff knew the names of the clientele that walked through their door to collect their regular coffee fix. I also loved that the barista suggested completely different coffees to everyone who was unsure of what they wanted. I’m calling him the Coffee Whisperer from now on.

Give this place some love and show them a lot of appreciation for their vegan options.
