Delish in Hout Bay is another one of those eateries that have taken note of the growing need to accommodate vegan diners. Their menu has specifically marked vegan items.. and a few surprises if you ask nicely.
Address: 8 Beach Crescent, Hout Bay
Hours: 8am-5pm Mon-Sun
Bae and I stopped for a quick lunch and were both pleasantly surprised and a little torn as to what we should select from their menu:
Smash Avo… smashed avo, topped w/roasted chickpeas and served on a seed loaf toast (R65)
Buddha Bowl… cinnamon roasted chickpeas, butternut, spinach, red onion, pumpkin seeds, bean sprouts and mushroom topped w/balsamic dressing and bean sprouts (R100)
Lentil Salad… warm lentils w/roasted tomatoes and zucchini ribbons, drizzled w/balsamic vinaigrette (R62)
Coconut Curry Spaghetti… a blend of tomato, secret spices, onion, garlic and coconut cream tossed w/spaghetti (R80)
We both ordered the Buddha Bowl and although it was absolutely delicious, it was slightly small for the price we were paying. Also, although I am no expert, Buddha Bowl’s are usually jam-packed with different tastes and this felt a little sparse.
It made me regret not ordering something else on the menu. Besides the mushrooms, everything else on the plate was really very inexpensive. Next time I definitely want to try the Coconut Curry Spaghetti!
We then enquired about desserts and the chef had made a vegan chocolate cake that was to die for! It was literally chocolate heaven! At R35 this seemed very reasonable. My only regret is that I should have bought two slices!
Would I go back here again? Definitely! It’s quaint and quiet, and fairly dear (which I guess is like “quaint” but only way more gayer.).
Go check Delish out and tell them the Cape Town Vegan sent you.
