At O’ways Teacafé food is more than just fuel for a busy day, it is a sacred combination of the best that mother nature has to offer and following the rhythm of her seasons there is always something new on the menu to be savored and enjoyed at this Claremont ‘institution’.
Address: Shop 2, Heritage House, 20 Dreyer Street, Claremont
Hours: 7:30am-5pm Mon-Fri, 9am-2pm Sat, closed Sun
O’ways Teacafé creates an atmosphere that is a unique emergence of the best of a teahouse, a coffee shop and a restaurant into a new blend: Teacafé.
Their menu offers more than 100 Nigiro teas, sourced from the great origins including Africa and Asia, and steeped to perfection in glass teapots. Along with their tea appreciation events, they also are available for more intimate tea ceremonies. Tea Tastings and Tea Ceremonies can be arranged upon appointment.
Coffee drinks are not forgotten, as specialty coffee beans are sourced from Africa and transformed through artisan roasting and expertly brewed by barista’s trained at the Origin Coffee Roasting Company.
Their menu changes seasonally but never includes any meat or alcohol. Here are just SOME of the vegan highlights that are currently available (although there are too many to list!):
Chilled Bircher Muesli with coconut milk & fruit salad (R60)
Vegan Chickpea Flour Omelette w/mushroom & seasonal veg (R60)
Veggie Burger w/tofu mayonnaise, sweet chilli sauce & roasted potato wedges (R75)
Aubergine Tomato Curry served w/basmati rice & poppadum (R72)
Dim Sum Platter w/pot of specialty tea – specify vegan (for one R179, for two R259)
It’s interesting to note that NONE of their food contains onion or garlic – making it great for people with sensitive stomachs.
There are daily specials to choose from on their blackboard with the vegan options clearly marked.
Takeaways are available for people on the go and there is a retail section selling bags of Nigiro tea leaves, Origin coffee beans as well as tea and coffee utensils such as canisters, cups and saucers and teapots.
