It is shameful that it has taken me THIS long to write about El Burro, but hopefully (having probably been yourself several times) it will jog your memory as to their fantastic vegan offerings! The general consensus among vegans across the Western Cape is that this is a firm favourite for fans of Mexican food. So if you haven’t been, then go!

Vegan Chilli Rellenos (3 for 75) – smoked jalapenos stuffed w/cashew cream, grilled under a flame and served w/guacamole
Vegan Esquites (R55) – classic Mexican street snack: chargrilled corn, softened onions, olive oil, chilli salt, fresh lime, and coriander
Vegan Spicy Bean Enchilada Verde (R90/R135) – mixed beans, smoked paprika, cumin, cinnamon, onions and garlic in a spicy tomato sauce rolled into 2 flour tortillas and topped w/spinach Verde sauce and baked
Vegan Artichoke Quesadilla (R135) – artichokes, rocket and jalapeno-infused cashew nut “cheese”, folded into flour tortillas and then grilled on a flat top
Vegan Cauliflower & Chickpea (R100) – plated taco roasted w/cumin, smoked paprika and lime. served on corn tortillas w/coleslaw, spicy peanut and arbol chilli salsa and fresh avocado slices
Vegan Spicy Mixed Beans (R115) – build-your-own taco Mexican spiced beans and chickpeas, served w/fresh tomato & onion salsa, pickled red onions, guacamole, & tortillas (flour or corn)
Vegan Mexican Chopped Salad (R65) black beans, chickpeas, sweetcorn, tomato, cucumber, red & yellow peppers, red onions, avocado, coriander & mint w/a spicy lime & olive dressing, topped w/crispy fried flour tortilla strips
Vegan Grilled Aubergine & King Oyster Mushroom Salad (R85) – fresh fennel & rocket salad w/smoked olives, onion, lemon zest & coriander dressing topped w/flaked almonds & pumpkin seeds
I’ve eaten from the vegan menu three times and all I can say is YASSS! Do it! It’s exceptional.

Thank you so much for this! I must have been living under a rock! Any chance that there is a vegan dessert and a vegan tequila available on the menu?
Sadly there isn’t a dessert (yet!) but I’m sure you could find a vegan-friendly tequila as some are! But you’d have to check.
