Review – NEW Spring Menu at Green Vine Eatery, Constantia

The welcoming Green Vine Eatery is a family-friendly “shabby chic meets wine farm” setting. Having reviewed it before (here), I was excited to return (along with Bae) to try their new vegan spring menu.

Chef Rui (best described as charismatic, passionate about food and generally louder than most) and owner, Chessa Louw, have continued to maintain and perhaps even raise the standards of their extensive vegan offering.

The Melanzane All Parmigiana is perhaps the best I have tasted in Cape Town to date. It was one of those dishes that leaves you utterly confused as to how it could possibly be vegan due to the sheer creaminess and cheesiness of the dish. My one and only regret was having to share it with Bae. My suggestion would be to order it as a starter to share or as a light main meal.

The Zucchini Pasta had more of an Asian influence that Italian, but it was the pumpkin jus that really gave the dish a kick. This is one of the reasons I am such a fan of Green Vine Eatery: it’s diverse menu ticks all sorts of boxes in terms of culinary preferences.

The super-filling Big Mama Burger (a homemade veg patty) was served on a beetroot-infused vegan bun topped with farm greens galore. It’s the kind of burger you want to pick up with both hands and get stuck into.  Ours was served with Cape Malay Sweet Potato Crisps, but you there is a choice of Hand-Cut Potato Chips or Seasonal Salad too.

All of these magnificent meals can and should be coupled with a glass of their very own Silvermist Estate wine. This goes without saying.

There is always space for dessert, and the Farm Brownies nearly tipped us over the edge. Served with a homemade Coconut Ice Cream, this decadent piece of heaven was everything you could possibly hope for in a brownie. It was sweet, but not-too-sweet, rich, chewy and definitely moreish.
