Jessy’s Waffles (58 Barnet St, Gardens) recently hosted its first Afternoon Tea to an absolutely packed seating area.
I was fortunate enough to grab a seat along with a friend of mine to experience what I would sum up as possibly my FAVOURITE high tea/afternoon tea experience to date.
What makes this a winning experience is that is it absolutely unique. You won’t find a scone or jam in sight and the only “authentic” part of the afternoon is the tea, which you are welcome to swop out for a coffee of your choice!
Everything is vegan and gluten-free – so Jessy (of Jessy’s Waffles) is smartly catering to two different audiences (three if you count the lactose intolerant folks) and is essentially feeding two birds with one scone. How’s that for a vegan idiom and pun in one!
There is a beautiful balance between rich, sweet, savoury and raw and I genuinely could not fault one of the 7 items laid out in front of me. Sadly, the more I experience in terms of vegan cuisine, the more comparisons I have to draw on. I can safely say that Jessy and her team knock the competition out of the water with this one.
At R230 per person, it was an absolute bargain (considering the other two well known vegan high tea offerings come in at R325 and R365 respectfully). Whilst the offering is limited to what is set before you, it is MORE than enough! Tea and coffee are also unlimited.
Future afternoon teas at Jessy’s Waffles will be staggered (in seating intervals) so that food can come out slightly quicker – which is great.
I can HIGHLY recommend this experience.
Peace xx
Thanks for this, what did you get served?
Everything you see above – all 7 items – two savoury waffles, some brownies, an ice cream, strawberries, and two mini flapjack stacks.
