Review – NEW Winter Menu at Plant, City Centre

I was recently invited to try out the new Winter Menu at Plant, and to sum it up: I was genuinely impressed!

Address: 8 Buiten St, City Centre

Hours: 9am-9pm Mon, 7:30am-10pm Tue-Sat, 9am-5pm Sun

Plant seems to be killing it with their weekly themed buffets and have gone one step further to fully update their menu, which is now neatly laid out in a 6-page booklet featuring several VERY yummy choices.

I’m going to be honest and say we tried a LOT off the menu (as I brought my other half with me to share his thoughts). What owner Pierre Lambret and Chef Angela Ndoro have come up with is nothing less than BRILLIANT.

I could waffle on for hours going into the intricacies of each dish, or simply highlight my favourites (which I am going to rather do!).

The absolute winners (based on my personal taste and preference) had to be:

La Fermiere Flammekueche – tempeh, mushrooms, parsley on a bechamel base (R70)

Lasagne – Chef Angie’s speciality – tomato, seitan & mushrooms in a bechamel sauce (R75)

Hot Dog – homemade vegan sausage in a roll with cabbage & red onions and served with fries (cheesy loaded as an option) (R80)

Other notable mentions:

La Rosee Flammekueche – carrot lox, spring onions, cherry tomatoes & cream cheese (R70)

Vegetable Tartare – mushrooms, red cabbage, tomatoes, avos & carrot lox (R50). I didn’t try this, but only because I am allergic to avo, but my other half said it was delicious.

Suffice it to say, this is REAL food, made with natural and healthy ingredients, and all in-house!

On another note, Plant has a DAILY soup kitchen that caters to the homeless, seven days a week, offering them hot soup. What a genuinely beautiful deed.

Ps. Do you know that a lot of people come to Melkbos over the weekends, & are always looking for vegan restaurants.
