For some people, a trip to the Southern Suburbs from the Atlantic Seaboard for lunch would be unthinkable. Well, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t require a visa and it can be worth it.
Address: 70 Belvedere Rd, Claremont
Hours: 11am-10pm Mon-Thur, 9am-10pm Fri-Sun & Public Holidays
The Eatery Woodfired Grill at Belvedere Square in Claremont has a few vegan options on their menu worth making the trip.
Owner Marius Pieters has noticed the trend in people requesting plant-based options and like any smart business owner has responded accordingly.
We started off sharing a simple Garden Salad which was fresh and crisp accompanied by a stunning lemon and mint dressing alongside a portion of the Vegan Chilli Poppers which were light, non-greasy and packed a punch!
The Veganista Burger is a patty of chopped veg with sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds topped with mushrooms, rocket and vegan mayo served with fries.
The other main course option was their version of a Mushroom Risotto but using lentils which was an exciting twist. Is was probably closer to a mushroom stew than risotto and anyone expecting risotto might be disappointed, but it was delicious and wholesome.
Another twist was dessert! A Popco Ice Lolly in a G&T!! I was designated driver, so I tried Bae’s, and it was refreshingly spot-on for a hot summers day.
It’s a chilled, family-friendly vibe and Marius is in the process of adding more options to the menu.
Please take advantage of the visa-free travel experience and head south to check it out!
